We had a workshop on Problem Solving yesterday at work. It was an eight-hour workshop, embedded with interesting videos, quotes, tools and games. Ok.. so what is so special about solving a problem? Nothing really.. except that we dont know what a problem is, what a solution is and what the process is.. We often tend to confuse the three, thereby adding to already existing problem. This was the crux of the workshop explained a very patient and endearing trainer from Guiding Light Consultants,
Mitesh Khatri.
He was simply brilliant and knew his stuff to the T. There was not a single stammering or stuttering or looking at the notes. What stood out about him was the way he explained every detail with reference to a personal incident, so it actually made things easy to understand.
Couple of things I thought he could have done was:
a. Use the word
challenge more than he used the word
problem. Contextually they may mean the same thing, but when it comes to the mind, both these words are interpreted differently. A problem is always perceived in the negative sense, while challenge definitely brings about an energy change (in the right direction of course).
b. This other point is actually miniscule - he uses the word Hello a lot, I, most often than not, felt I was in a con call :D.
All in all, it was a day that left me quite satisfied and more mature.
