An ode to my girl friends

I was just discussing with a male friend, about visiting my girl friend so we could have some girl time together. He wore a puzzled expression – pray tell me what is girl time?

Most of you girls – certainly know what I’m talking about. But to the ignorant men folk out there – who seem to think soccer / beer / intelligent movies / too-heavy-to-carry books / pubs are ways that the men bond together, here’s an insight into girl time. Much has been said about this – but here’s my take.

Girl time is what girls do, without the intervention of men. Girly gossip, shop till we drop, giggle endlessly, try on clothes but not buy, window shopping, give strange looks to the men we pass on the sidewalk, bargain like there’s no tomorrow, popping eyes at the mere sight of a SALE hoarding.

Comment about other men and women, and yet not worry about your girl pal being judgmental about you.

You don’t have to worry if your tummy shows out and waste precious breath tucking it in. You don’t bother if your legs are shaved or not – yet wear small skirts and putter at home. Make a mess in the kitchen and know the girls will help you clean up. Get drunk / cry / get wild / throw up and yet she’ll be there when you wake up next morning. You don’t have to worry about how you look when you wake up in the morning. You don’t worry if she’s going to make a pass at you / act fresh.

She can help you pick up shoes, tell you if you really ARE fat (and know that you won’t be pissed). Hug and kiss, and not worry if you did it right. Go on an ice-cream binge in the middle of the night, eat without guilt.

Watch silly rom-coms and end up teary-eyed, read chick-lits and Mills and boon and believe in happily-ever-after !!

No pretence, no judgments. That’s the whole deal of having girl friends !!! :-)

A beautiful day...

A beautiful day

A beautiful day indeed

Dawn broke as dark as dusk

The breeze as gentle as a lover's caress

A drop of rain on my parted lips

The smell of wet earth

The sound of crunching gravel

The horizon beckons...

..so far yet so near

A beautiful day

A beautiful day indeed
